Strathearn Community Garden Founding
The results of the Strathearn Community’s Garden’s founding were well worth the hard work. A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make this garden happen!!
Planning the Garden
From May 2017-May 2018, The Strathearn Community Garden group completed many applications to the City of Edmonton, designed the garden layout, and secured a $5000 grant from Sustainable Food Edmonton. No other community garden in the city has been able to complete all these steps in one year.
On May 12, 2018, a compost fundraiser was held, where raised $3,542 was raised for the materials required for the build.
Building the Garden
In June 2018 built 16 raised beds and a compost bin were constructed by volunteers and garden members. A shed was purchased from Kenilworth Jr. High’s shop program and was towed to the garden site. A water tank, picnic table, and tree and raspberry seedlings completed phase one of the garden.
The second phase of the garden build occurred in August 2018. Two more raised beds, stone beds for shared herbs and flowers, a central bird bath, and three benches built by SEESA (Southeast Edmonton Senior’s Association) were installed. Check out the transformation:
