BArre Class with kim
If you have never participated in a Barre class, they are so much fun! Less impact than a boot camp and all the rage now. Barre infuses elements of dance, and ballet, to achieve beautiful healthy bodies, while improving postural balance, flexibility, coordination and grace. It strengthens, lengthens, and chisels the body, and each class features an elegant yet energetic combination of movements that improve balance, and challenge the core. You will sweat and have fun at the same time. What have you got to lose… try it? Come out and join Kim Ashley who is AFLCA fitness leader and Barre Certified and will guide you through the best work out to be the best you! Bring your yoga mat or Pilates mat and your water bottle. Bring your 2lb weights if you have them.
Kim Ashley has always been involved in fitness and healthy living. During high school she played multiple sports such as, swim team, ringette, bicycle riding and was always involved in fitness of some sort. Throughout the years of raising her son Kim was actively involved in and found her passion for working out. Kim has participated in Fem sport competitions and obstacle course races.
It was during Kim’s Fem sport competitions that she started to think about getting her AFLCA requirements so that she could share her passion and love of fitness with everyone. Kim obtained her AFLCA certification and has been teaching fitness for 3 years. A Human Resources Manager by day, Kim teaches fitness in the evenings at some of Edmonton’s community leagues. Kim enjoys teaching Barre, HIIT, and Tabata. Kim’s goal is to empower everyone to embrace both their physical and spiritual health. Being a dedicated fitness instructor, Kim understands and embraces fitness into everyday life and loves to share her passions with others.
Yoga with nicole
Practice and all is coming - Patthabi Jois
This yoga class is a gentle flow class. We will focus on connecting our breath with movement and exploring our physical being in its entirety. The posture sequence will change slightly every week, depending on the needs of the students. This class is suitable for all levels of practitioners, who are looking for balance, strength, flexibility, and overall well being. For any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
My teaching is soft and accepting. I teach to the individual, addressing each student and their unique experience. I believe that yoga asana (postures) are a tool to help students to explore and accept their physical, mental, and energetic realities. Yoga postures should not be painful and we should work within our limits to help ourselves grow.
When I started practicing yoga in 2004, I had just completed my Bachelor of Arts Degree at U of A and I was fortunate to be able to devote my life to my practice. I practiced morning mysore yoga (ashtanga yoga) daily at the Yoga Loft with Rameen Peyrow until my first trip to Northern India in 2007, where I continued my daily practice and study in hatha yoga, yin yoga, and meditation. Back in Edmonton, I completed a 200 hour RYS ashtanga yoga teacher training at the Yoga Loft in 2008. I began teaching yin yoga and Ashtanga yoga while continuing my practice. I went back to India in 2009 where I was able to continue my studies. In 2010 I completed a 500 hour RYS Maya yoga teachers training in Maui, Hawaii with Nikki Doan and Eddie Modestini and also completed a 200 hour RYS Sattva yoga training with Rameen Peyrow.
In 2011 my first daughter was born, in 2013 my son, and in 2015 another daughter. My practice has greatly shifted. I no longer have the space to practice alone for hours a day. My practice has moved off of my yoga mat and into my life… reminding me to breathe and stay patient and grounded (when I can!) throughout the day, no matter what kind of challenges life is throwing at me. Becoming a mother has helped me to live my yoga and to have greater empathy for everyone around me.
Hula hoop class with dagny
If you've just started hoopdance or want to start hoopdance, this is a great place to be! Here we will use bigger hoops to help us in learning the foundational moves of hoopdance, such as weaves, lifts, and of course, waist hooping! We will learn ways to transition between these moves and encourage play to allow your own creative style to develop!
All levels are welcome! Take both classes!
Here we will focus on finding our flow and gaining our comfort in new movement by challenging our comfort zones, interacting with each other, working through interesting activities, and encouraging play. Don't be afraid! You'll come out of this class feeling you've really become a hoopDANCE.
Like many hoopers, Dagny first found hooping at a festival and was completely fascinated. It wasn’t long before she began to write her own hoop story. Thanks to some amazing teachers, she flourished and began to feel confident sharing her passion. Now she is an experienced performer, sponsored by Ruby Hooping, and is a certified Hoop Love Coach and Hooping Mad Advanced Teacher. She has taught workshops at festivals including The Okanagan Flow Festival, Astral Harvest, and Ruby Retreat, and has taught beginner and intermediate classes and workshops through Infinity Hoopdance in Edmonton. Additionally, she has co-created the performance trio Spiral Squad. Her future hoop plans include continuing to perform and teach, leveling up her hoop skills, working and growing with Spiral Squad, and continuing her education to become a better hoopdance instructor. She is currently working on her Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education from the University of Victoria.
